I’d also add - the fear of being flat out wrong.

It’s easier to question, build on, compare to, and scrutinise an existing thought than it is to build an idea from nothing.

By experimenting with what has been said and re-performing research, we validate and verify and innovate to try to make what we’re perpetuating forward more valuable than what came before.
